Last Friday, 28th August 2015, Ms Akurut was crowned miss Uganda 2015 at a ceremony hosted at Serena Hotel in Kampala. Miss tourism project promotes Uganda both domestically and internationally. This project which was started three years back on a slow note has now become one of the proud pullers in Kampala and up country towns. Uganda is one of African countries with great tourism potentials yet un known to many. The government through Uganda Tourism Board is trying to promote the country as a tourism destination through campaigns such as these in order to create awareness about what the country has to offer in terms of tourism products for both domestic and international tourists.

Miss tourism project promotes Uganda.

Miss Uganda pageant project starts with regional competitions where contestants are then eliminated depending on their regional performance. Regions include Kigezi, Ankole, Bunyoro, Buganda, teso among others. Once region competitions are completed, successful contestants are then allowed to compete in Kampala from where finalists are selected for national finals. Its from these that the winner is selected and becomes miss tourism for one year representing Uganda in all international tourism events such as Miss world tourism.

Miss Uganda projects promotes Uganda by creating awareness of tourism attractions in each region. Each contestant is a representation of tourism products in regions they represent. In Kigezi we have mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park. In here, both Domestic and international tourists can spend some days trekking gorillas and or participating in other activities such as volcano hiking, birding watching, forest walks, Batwa cultural experience among other. In fort portal, chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National park cannot go unmentioned while in Kasese, a visit to Queen Elizabeth National park for game drives and boat cruises on kazinga channel are highlights. Those interested in trekking mountains, Rwenzori and Elgon are a plus. By doing so, miss tourism project promotes Uganda both domestically and internationally.
