Encounter Africa Safaris is advocating for improving gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park so that tourists who come for gorilla trekking safaris can enjoy a great experience worse the money paid for a gorilla permit and other travel expenses including transport, accommodation while in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It is understood that gorilla trekking is indeed one of the most expensive tourist activity in Africa and we feel that the experience provided should be worth the money paid. Thus improving gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park will not only be beneficial to tourists but also on increased inflow of tourists to Uganda.
Why Improving gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi is needed
Improving gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is needed for many reasons one being to compete with our Neighbor Rwanda. I have been in both Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Volcanoes National Park and there is a very big difference when it comes to gorilla trekking experience. It should be noted that while in Rwanda just before gorilla trekking briefing, tourists are treated to serious entertainment by traditional dancers something that is note done in Uganda. I observed that these dancers not only entertain the guests alone but also introduces them to the culture of Rwanda. In Volcanoes National Park, guests are served tea or coffee before briefing and eventual gorilla trekking. All these add value to the gorilla trekking experience and because of such things, tourists are willing to pay more to trek gorillas in Rwanda instead of Uganda among other factors. Gorilla trekking in Uganda started in 1993 but less innovations to entertain guests in a move to enhance their experience has been slow. In Bwindi National Park, there is nothing like serving tea or entertaining guests inform of traditional dances. For us to improve gorilla trekking experience here, Uganda Wildlife Authority in conjunction with the local community should look into improving gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi by introducing such.
Improving gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park will also make Uganda more attractive or a preferred destination due to the fact that gorilla permits in Uganda are slightly cheaper compared to Rwanda. Rwanda has an edge over Uganda because of the distance from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park. Tourists would rather pay more and travel less than paying less and they have to drive 8-9 hours from Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. At Encounter Africa Safaris, we strongly believe that gorilla trekking is very expensive and improving gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park will be value addition.
