How affordable is Uganda gorilla tourism

When gorilla tracking is mentioned in Africa, two countries will always come into play and that is Uganda and Rwanda much as there mountain gorillas in the democratic republic of Rwanda. There has been a debate as to which country is best for gorilla trekking in Africa and several arguments have been put forward by different experts on which country is better but in this post we are looking at how affordable is gorilla tourism or tracking in Uganda.

Bwindi Discounted gorilla permits

In order to make gorilla tourism affordable, Uganda Wildlife authority introduced low season discounts on gorilla permits in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for months of April, May and November but this has to be announced in order for this discount to take effect. Since 2013, this campaign has been running and is on offer even in 2015. With this offer, foreign residents pay USD300.00, Foreign Non Residents pay USd350 and East Africans from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi pay 150,000shs instead of USD500, USD600.00 and 250,000shillings respectively. This therefore make Uganda an affordable gorilla tracking destination in Africa compared to Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo in this area of gorilla tourism.

Mgahinga Discounted gorilla permits June 2015

There has been news in the media as reported by the weekly observer that Uganda Wildlife Authority has decided to offer discounted gorilla permit price to all those interested in tracking gorillas in Mgahinga National Park. If this is true, then Uganda will have succeeded in attracting more gorilla trackers to Mgahinga National Park. Maghinga has only one habituated gorilla family called Nyakagezi and for long, this gorilla family used to roam in the virunga National Park until recent when it has decided to stay on the Ugandan side. Discounted gorilla permits at USD350 for foreign non residents will infact run effect 1st June 2015 in order to attract gorilla trackers to Mgahinga since many have been preferring to track gorillas either in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda or Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. If this campaign takes off, this means that tourists can trek gorillas during high season (June) in Mgahinga and be able to enjoy other activities such as golden monkeys among others. This will as well put Uganda as a country in Africa that offers rates for permits something that will promote affordable gorilla tourism in Uganda.

Affordable gorilla safari accommodation rates

With the growth of gorilla tourism in Uganda. Many Lodges have sprung up in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park trails of Nkuringo and Rushaga in the south, Ruhija in the East and Buhoma in the North. This coupled with the introduction of scheduled flights from Entebbe to Kihihi, and Kisoro airstrips in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has not only reduced on the drive time but has made gorilla tourism affordable in Uganda than any other countries in Africa.

Many scholars will definitely come up with counter arguments but this case is for Uganda as a gorilla tourism destination and we feel that the above among other factors will promote gorilla tourism in Uganda in the few coming years.
