Bwindi impenetrable National Park which is one of the forests that harbour endangered great apes in the names of mountain gorillas have different regions located in different angles of the forest. Today we take a deep look at gorilla families in Buhoma. Buhoma region of Bwindi Impenetrable national park is very famous in as far as gorilla trekking is concerned due to the fact that it is where the activity of gorilla trekking started from. It was in 1993 that a group of tourists went for their first gorilla trekking experience in the forest. By that time, there was only one habituated gorilla families but as time went on, more gorilla families were habituated for the purpose of conserving, tourism and generating more income and funds to protect these endangered mountain gorillas only found in Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Gorilla families in Buhoma

There many gorilla groups spread in Buhoma side of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park but the only habituated gorilla families in Buhoma for gorilla trekking include Mubare gorilla group, habinyanja gorillas and Rushegura. These three group are always near or rotate around Buhoma park headquarters and all those interested in staying in Buhoma region are better off booking gorilla permits for this region. Many tourist prefer trekking gorilla families in Buhoma due to the fact that it is more advertised than other regions and besides, it is more accessible from Queen Elizabeth, Kibale National Park and Kampala compared to other regions. This region has popular lodges such as Gorilla Forest Camp, Mahogany springs and Buhoma Lodge where tourists prefer staying and these lodges do a lot of marketing thus attracting many tourists to Buhoma region yet there is gorilla trekking and good accommodation properties on other regions of Bwindi Impenetrable national park.
