Uganda Travel News

On every tourist mind when planning a gorilla safari is what do I need for me to trek gorillas, where should I trek gorillas bearing in mind that mountain gorillas are only found in three countries of Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic republic of congo. Once this is settled, then clients tend to compare costs of every item as well as the overall experience. When it comes to reduced costs, Uganda broadly declared that gorilla permits will always be reduced in low season months of April, May and November to allow those who can travel during that time enjoy such a discount. While discounted gorilla permits were costing USD350 in 2014 and 2015, they have been increased to USD450 in 2016 and 2017. Having looked at that, does Rwanda offer low season gorilla permits just like Uganda?

Does Rwanda offer low season gorilla permits

Since 2014, Rwanda tour operators have been engaging Rwanda Development Board to reduce the price of a gorilla permit to match that of Uganda which is at USD650.00 but with no success and Uganda has been so tactical by not even charging the same price of a gorilla permit as Rwanda. It remains to be seen if Rwanda will at one time offer low season gorilla permits to clients interested in tracking gorillas in Rwanda.

Having noted the above, this has not stopped Rwanda from attracting more gorilla trackers than Uganda. This can be attributed to their aggressive marketing, having a national carrier as well as peace that has prevailed since the genocide era. The other advantage has been shorter distance from Kigali Airport to Volcanoes National Park compared to the distance from Entebbe Airport to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Does Rwanda offer low season gorilla permit? The answer is no and should they do so, we will update you since we are normally the first people to provide accurate and timely information about permits and gorilla tours.
