Affordable gorilla permit price for Uganda gorilla permits

Among the causes of gorilla permit shortage in Uganda is the price of gorilla permits compared to our rivals in Rwanda. To buy a gorilla permit or to secure a gorilla permit, the price of a gorilla permit is at USD600 per person for foreign non residents, USD500 for Foreign residents and sh250,000 for East African citizens. This makes Uganda second most affordable destination for gorilla trekking after Democratic Republic of Congo. Because of the increment in the price of Rwanda gorilla permits from USD750 to USD1500, many people have now resorted to Uganda is it is more affordable, cheap and safe compared to DRC. This has in turn resulted in shortage of gorilla permits due to rush to book them in advance. Most tourists that used to trek gorillas in Rwanda as well as Rwanda tour operators have now turned to Uganda for cheaper gorilla permits hence increasing on the competition of gorilla permits in Uganda.

Causes of gorilla permit shortage in Uganda are sometimes due to seasonality aspect. Tourist prefer to trek mountain gorillas in traditional drier months of June, July August, Early Septembers, December, January and February.
